Scientific research activity of the Department of Weed Research:
✔️ forecasting and monitoring of quarantine, economically important and invasive weeds in agriculture and development of a strategy for integrated protection of cultivated plants;
✔️ study of morphological, physiological and ecological characteristics of weeds;
✔️ study of biology, taxonomy and population variability of selected weed species important for agricultural production in Serbia and the region;
✔️ study of competitive relations of weed species and their impact on agricultural production and ecosystems;
✔️ examination of weed seed reserves in the soil;
✔️ analysis of competitive relations of weeds, seed reserves and testing of secondary metabolites of economically important weed plants;
✔️ examination of the presence, spread and impact of invasive plant species;
✔️ definition of basic corridors (aquatic and terrestrial) for spread of selected invasive species and analysis of the importance of various environmental factors and anthropogenic activities on their presence and dominance in natural and anthropogenically disturbed habitats;
✔️ research of the significance of highways and motorways as basic introduction routes and corridors for the spread of allochthonous and invasive plant species;
✔️ study of weeds as hosts and vectors of phytopathogens that are important for agricultural production in Serbia;
✔️ study of the weeds ability to accumulate heavy metals;
✔️ studies of the effects of herbicides on weed and cultivated species, environment and fertility and soil quality;
✔️ study of the occurrence of weed resistance to herbicides;
✔️ development and introduction into practice of new methods for determining resistant weed populations in our country, with special emphasis on mapping these populations and monitoring their spread;
✔️ examination of the possibility of weed control using microorganisms.
